Overview
The Nahuche Health and Demographic Surveillance System (NHDSS) study site, located in Bundugu Local Government of Zamfara State, north western region of Nigeria, established in 2009 with 137,823 individuals that rises to 174,002 as at December 2015. The site is 32km from Gusau, comprises over 100 villages under the leadership of six district heads, namely: Nahuche keku, Nahuche ubandawaki, Karakkai, Gada, Rawayya and Bela. The residence of the catchment area are mostly Hausa by ethnicity. It was set-up as collaboration between Zamfara state Government through State Ministry of Health (SMoH), Department for International Development (DFID) and Norwegian Government funded by (PRRINN-MNCH) Programme that winded up and handed over to MNCH2 for continuity.The baseline census was conducted in 2010 where the subsequent rounds were conducted every six months of a year. Data collection on births, deaths, migration events, pregnancies, marriages and marriage termination events are routinely conducted. Verbal autopsy (VA) data are collected on all deaths reported during routine data collection. Annual update data on antenatal care and household characteristics are also collected.

Coverage
Nahuche HDSS is located in Bungudu Local GOvernment Area of Zamfara State, and have six (6) districts under the leadership of 2 heads. Namely: Nahuche Keku, Nahuche Ubandawaki, Gada, Karakkai and BelaNahuche HDSS covers as many as 306 Villages with 143,600 population at inception. the dataset contains the events of all individuals ever resident during the study period of (September 2010 to December 2014).
